Reading Notes: Mahabharata, part B
The House of Fire
by C. A. Kincaid
- Vidura is the brother of Pandu and Dhritarashtra, and wiser than the both of them but not eligible for the throne because he was a servant.
- Vidura uses his wit to use a plea before the king as a secret message to his allies to inform them that his family was in trouble
- the Pandavas are the five sons of Pandu
- why would you make a palace out of oil and wood that sounds like it wouldn't pass fire code
- okay reading on I now see that the palace is a trap
- Digging the tunnel was a cleaver way to escape this possible disaster
- Poetic justice: the captain who was planning to set fire to kill the royal family was killed in a fire himself
- Why did they have to include the woman and her 5 children in the story? is there more importance to their identity than is currently being disclosed?
- I like that there were bodies that were thought to be the families so that they could remain safe and hidden, but are their lives really more important just because of their social status?
