Silence the Critical Voices in Your Head: I think it is a very human tendency to dwell on that which didn't go according to plan as we are all problem solvers at our core, but when we begin to asses so much that it impairs our ability to live, that is when I would say the voices in my have taken control. This 5 step plan to rewire the mind towards positive thinking made a lot of sense to me. So much of our existence really does rely on our perception and by choosing to focus on the good, a legitimate change in mindset can be achieved.
Neil Gaiman’s Advice on the Creative Life: I have never been ore excited to make mistakes than in this moment. Reading Neil Gaiman's speech was exactly the reassurance that I needed. Why do I always choose to freeze up and do nothing rather than just trying? Nothing comes from nothing but something beautiful can come from a mistake. Right now I'm working on an Opera by Handel called Rodelinda and it has been one of the most trying pieces I've ever worked on. On top of that, my part is being doubled by an amazingly talented grad student and often times I dread running a scene after him because I know he will do it better. Rather than focusing on him, I should be focused on making my own good art, full of mistakes and passion.
