Reading Notes: Storybook Preparation, Part B

Ganesha, The Hindu God of Success

by Subhamoy Das

-He is the lord of success and the destroyer of evils and obstacles, worshiped as the god of education, wisdom, and wealth.

-Worshipers also regard him as the destroyer of vanity, selfishness, and pride, the personification of the material universe in all its manifestations.

- In his right hand he holds a Goad which propels mankind forward and removes obstacles

- In his left he holds a rope with which he captures all difficulties

- Ganesha wrote the Mahabharata using his tusk which he sacrificed

- a rosary suggests continued pursuit of knowledge

There is beautiful symbolism in Ganesha's depiction
